Paola Mauricio: "The idea for this song began sometime in February in the middle of a toplining exercise. Whenever I have trouble writing new material, I like throwing together a bunch of loops and freestyling over them until I spew out a decent couplet or a verse. When "your state of mind's no state of mine" came up mid-freestyle, I felt that it was an idea worth developing further. After throwing together a scratch demo, I sent it over to Justin (de Guzman) who worked his magic and helped bring this idea to the next level.

The Philippines' political climate is becoming tenser by the day. Moreover, it is becoming clear that those in power are more interested in protecting the moneyed few than upholding the rights and uplifting the lives of the 99%. Being personally frustrated by a government that does not speak for my beliefs may have inspired my writing process, but ultimately I hope this song resonates with others as well. "
